Select balcony and terrace waterproofing according to the substrate, falls and final covering. Systems beneath tiles, beneath screed and with an exposed finish have different water, UV and pedestrian-load requirements.
Beneath tiles or an exposed coating
First establish whether the waterproofing will be protected or exposed. With tiles, check adhesive and joints; with an exposed layer, check UV, wear and finish. Suitability beneath a covering does not establish suitability for direct traffic.
Falls, drains and connections
Assess standing water, unstable tiles and defective screed before installing new layers. Connections to walls, upstands, thresholds and drains form part of the system.
Products with a specific intended use
Sikalastic and MC-Proof include products for different applications. MC-Proof DF 10 lists balconies, terraces and waterproofing beneath tiles or screeds. Check its data sheet for the specific layers, protection and conditions.

Frequently asked questions: balcony and terrace waterproofing
Which waterproofing should I choose for a terrace?
By substrate, falls, water and final covering. Distinguish a system beneath tiles from one with an exposed finish.
Can it be applied over existing tiles?
With a system permitting that substrate, after checking adhesion, moisture and preparation. Repair unstable areas first.
Can the waterproofing remain exposed?
Only if the exact product and system are intended for UV, wetting and the expected loads. Follow any requirement for a protective layer.
What matters around the drain?
Falls, the connection to the membrane and compatible details. Simply coating around the opening does not establish a watertight connection.
Can MC-Proof DF 10 be used beneath tiles?
This is a stated application in the data sheet. Follow preparation, layer and subsequent covering compatibility requirements.
Is the membrane a finished floor?
Not automatically. The waterproofing layer and wear-resistant finish may be different parts of one system.
How are quantity and cost calculated?
From area, preparation, consumption of the specific layers and details. Compare the same scope of materials and installation.
Can products from different brands be combined?
Only with established compatibility for the particular system solution. Sharing a category does not establish that arbitrary materials work together.
