Sikalastic®-490 T is a transparent 1-component polyurethane waterproofing membrane with a glossy finish. After curing, it forms a watertight layer that retains its transparency and elasticity and is suitable for protection over tiles on balconies and terraces.
When to choose Sikalastic 490 T?
Choose Sikalastic®-490 T when you need transparent waterproofing over existing tiles without hiding the appearance of the floor finish. Typical applications include balconies, terraces, patios, greenhouses and skylights, as well as protection against frost, carbon dioxide and acid rain.

Primer and application
Glazed surfaces such as porcelain tiles and glass must be primed with Sika® Primer-490 T. After the primer has dried, apply Sikalastic®-490 T by brush or roller. Wait at least 12 hours before applying a second coat, but not more than 18 hours according to the TDS. For higher waterproofing performance and improved resistance to pedestrian traffic, a third coat may be applied.
Important limitations
- Do not use on concrete, other cementitious substrates or unglazed terracotta.
- Not suitable for permanent water exposure, including swimming pools and fountains.
- The substrate must be dry, without rising moisture, and with moisture content up to 4%.
- The wet surface may be slippery; for an anti-slip surface, the TDS allows broadcasting dry, clean quartz sand into the fresh product.
Before ordering
Send the area, photos of the floor finish, the type of tile or stone, and whether there are cracks, moisture, standing water or an old coating. This helps assess whether Sikalastic®-490 T is the right transparent solution or whether another waterproofing system is required.
