Topciment primers prepare the substrate for subsequent system layers. Primacem and Primapox products perform different functions, so selection begins with absorbency, strength and surface condition. This collection also includes Primacem Joint for joint preparation and separately listed epoxy-primer components.

Different substrates need different preparation
An absorbent mineral surface and dense ceramic tiles require different treatment. Primacem ABS, Plus, Fix and GRIP have distinct characteristics and intended uses. Identify the existing finish and check for dust, weak areas, contamination and moisture issues before choosing.
Primapox: check both components
Primapox 100 Barrier and Primapox 100 Fluid are different system products. Their A and B components are listed separately in specific quantities. Match the exact range and mixing ratio in its technical sheet; do not combine different versions by analogy.
Comparing primer prices
Compare pack prices alongside the demand on the actual substrate. Include mechanical preparation and any specified additional materials. Priming does not replace repair of an unstable base. Send photographs, the area and intended subsequent coating; suspected moisture requires assessment of the actual condition.

What is the difference between Primacem ABS and Primacem Plus?
Primacem ABS is a primer for absorbent substrates, such as suitable cementitious, plaster and plasterboard surfaces. Primacem Plus is a bonding primer for non-absorbent or low-absorption substrates, including sound ceramic coverings. They prepare the bond between the substrate and the next coating.
The choice is not determined simply by whether the room is a bathroom or kitchen. Assess the actual surface, contamination, absorption and selected system. Neither primer replaces removal of loose layers, levelling of tile joints or required waterproofing.
When should Primacem GRIP be used?
Primacem GRIP is an aggregate-filled bonding primer that creates a textured contact surface. It is used on compatible smooth or low-absorption substrates when the next material requires this type of preparation. It has interior and exterior applications.
GRIP is not a levelling compound and does not conceal substantial irregularities. It should not automatically be exchanged for Plus merely because their uses sound similar: the next coating determines the required texture and compatibility. Clean the substrate and check its soundness before priming.
What is Primacem Fix used for, and why does it remain tacky?
Primacem Fix is a bonding primer with residual tack, intended to improve adhesion between compatible old and new mortar or concrete surfaces. Its tack is part of its function and is not necessarily a sign of incorrect drying.
This does not make it a universal primer for every microcement system. Check the next coat, permitted application interval and substrate condition. Do not use it to glue down loose tiles or as a stand-alone repair for a weak, friable layer.
How do Primapox 100 Fluid and Primapox 100 Barrier differ?
Both are two-component epoxy products, but their functions differ. Primapox 100 Fluid is a low-viscosity primer and binder for suitable mineral substrates, subject to a substrate-moisture limit. Primapox 100 Barrier is developed as a barrier against rising moisture and water vapour within a specified build-up.
Barrier is not simply a “stronger Fluid”. Selection requires moisture measurement, identification of its source and checking the subsequent coats. The two products have different A/B ratios and their components must not be exchanged.
Can a primer solve a damp screed or leakage problem?
First establish whether the cause is residual construction moisture, rising damp, condensation or an active leak. These require different solutions. An ordinary bonding primer does not remove the moisture source. A specialised epoxy barrier is used only on a permitted substrate within a correctly installed system.
Before applying a decorative coating, assess moisture, strength, cracks and details. Do not attempt to seal an active leak or unstable screed with an arbitrary primer: the subsequent layers may blister, stain or debond.
Must tile joints be filled before microcement is applied?
Yes. Ordinary joints between sound tiles are levelled with a suitable filler so that relief or differences in absorption do not show through the decorative coating. Primacem Joint is a filling paste for this preparation; despite the range name, it is not a liquid bonding primer.
This does not apply to movement or structural joints, which must remain functional. Filling width and depth, drying and sanding must suit the material. Loose tiles must first be repaired or removed.
Are the substrate primer, Acricem and Presealer the same?
No. The primer beneath microcement prepares its bond to the substrate. Acricem primarily serves as the liquid component of particular two-component microcements and also has separately specified priming uses. Presealer is applied over installed microcement before the final protective varnish in the relevant systems.
For pools, Acricem Pool performs the dedicated roles within Atlanttic. Similar appearance or a shared water-based formulation does not establish interchangeability. Specify both the existing substrate and the exact coating range to be applied.
How are primer quantities and the next-coat timing determined?
Quantity depends on area, absorption, roughness and the primer’s function. A consumption rate for ordinary bonding cannot automatically be used for a system that must also act as a moisture barrier. Two-component products require calculation of the complete A + B mixture.
Observe both minimum and maximum intervals before the next coat. Some primers remain tacky, others need to dry, and certain epoxy systems require a quartz-sand broadcast. The compatible system determines the exact sequence.
