Topciment stamped concrete materials

Stamped concrete combines surface texture, colour and a protective treatment. Topciment’s category includes materials for decorative concrete projects and their maintenance. Selection starts with whether the work is a new floor or a refurbishment, together with traffic, outdoor exposure and the condition of the substrate.

What belongs in a decorative concrete system?

Decorative concrete systems include mortars, pigments, surface treatments, fibres and protective varnishes. Examples include Overlay, Arcocem Powder and Sealcem. These have different functions; they are not a universal recipe of interchangeable products.

New paving and concrete refurbishment

New concrete requires decisions about the mix, thickness, joints and surface-forming method. Refurbishment starts with assessing existing cracks, adhesion and previous sealers. A coloured decorative mortar alone does not establish suitability for vehicle traffic or outdoor exposure.

Questions about stamped and decorative concrete

Materials for texture, colouring and protection; substrates, joints and maintenance.
What is stamped concrete, and how does it differ from microcement?

Stamped concrete receives its relief from moulds applied at the appropriate stage to freshly placed concrete. Colour, texture and protection form part of the complete solution. The supporting concrete base, joints and drainage remain essential to floor performance.
Microcement is a different thin decorative coating over a prepared substrate. Textured stamped concrete, smooth coloured concrete and microcement are not the same technology and do not automatically use identical products.

Can existing concrete be renewed with a new decorative texture?

It can, provided the substrate is sound and a suitable refurbishment system is selected. Assess existing cracks, debonding, contamination and moisture before choosing bonding and decorative layers. Overlay materials have different variants and uses; not every repair or decorative mortar is equally suitable for stamping.
Specify thickness, preparation and technique for the exact product. Do not transfer consumption rates or permitted thicknesses between variants. A thin new layer does not restore the load-bearing capacity of a damaged concrete base.

What is the difference between powdered pigment and Oxicem?

Powdered colourant pigments a compatible cementitious material according to a specified formula. Oxicem is a reactive product for decorative colouring of suitable concrete surfaces through interaction with the mineral substrate. The effect depends on concrete composition, absorption and condition.
Oxicem should not be treated as an ordinary paint producing completely uniform colour, and it is different from Mettal Activator for decorative metallic coatings. Reactive colouring requires a trial area. Preparation and subsequent protection form part of the system.

What does Naturcem do, and is it the same as stamping?

Naturcem is a range of surface set retarders for decorative exposed-aggregate concrete. They act on the surface cement layer so it can be removed at the specified stage to expose the aggregate. This washed-concrete technique differs from impressing a pattern with moulds.
The variant and application procedure depend on the intended effect, concrete composition and working conditions. Naturcem is applied to the concrete surface using the specified procedure. It is not added to the concrete mix and is not a final protective varnish.

How is Sealcem protection selected for decorative concrete?

Sealcem includes products with different compositions and functions. A water-based product, solvent-based product and penetrating hardener are not equivalent protective solutions. Selection depends on absorption, any existing coating, interior or exterior exposure and loading.
The protective product may alter colour depth and sheen. Assess a completed trial area and slip-resistance requirements. Do not apply an arbitrary varnish over reactively coloured concrete or an existing coating without suitable preparation and confirmed compatibility.

Is stamped concrete suitable for a courtyard, path or vehicle access?

It can be designed for these uses, but suitability depends on the complete pavement: sub-base, concrete slab, any required reinforcement, joints, falls and protection. Decorative relief or colourant alone does not provide vehicle load capacity.
For vehicle access, specify the traffic type and loading. Exterior areas require consideration of drainage, weather and wet conditions. Deep relief may make cleaning harder, and gloss protection does not demonstrate adequate slip resistance.

Are joints required, and how is decorative concrete maintained?

A decorative appearance does not eliminate necessary construction and movement joints. Their position and execution are designed for the concrete pavement; impressed lines that merely resemble joints are not substitutes. Cracking caused by substrate movement is not resolved with additional colourant.
Maintenance includes compatible cleaning and assessment of protection according to wear. Before renewal, identify the existing product and preparation needed for the next treatment. Do not use one universal renewal interval for all Sealcem products and traffic levels.

How do I enquire about materials for stamped concrete?

Send the area, photographs, intended use, interior or exterior exposure, and whether the concrete is new or existing. Specify texture, colour, vehicle or pedestrian traffic and substrate condition. This helps distinguish preparation materials, decorative effects and protection.
This category currently has no published product entries for direct selection. The precise system, pack sizes and delivery are established through an enquiry. Describing the Oxicem, Overlay, Naturcem and Sealcem families does not confirm stock availability.
