SikaShield® P34 MG RO 4.5 kg/m² is an APP-modified bitumen waterproofing membrane with mineral granules for roofs, balconies and terraces. It is used as the top layer in multi-layer systems where the membrane will be exposed to UV and a finished mineral surface is required, rather than a PE membrane installed under protection.

Difference from PE membranes
SikaShield® P34 MG RO 4.5 kg/m² is a mineral-surfaced top membrane. SikaShield® P32 PE 2.5 kg/m² and SikaShield® P34 PE 4 kg/m² are PE membranes for a base layer under a protective layer or ballast and must not be used as a finished UV-exposed layer. This helps avoid selecting a base-layer roll waterproofing membrane where a visible mineral roof finish is required.
Installation and substrate
The substrate must be homogeneous, firm, smooth, clean, dry and free from sharp protrusions, oils, grease, bitumen, dust and loose particles. A suitable Sika primer is applied to the prepared dry surface and allowed to dry, then the membrane is installed by gas-torch heating of the substrate and the lower film.
Overlaps and maintenance
According to the TDS, a side lap of at least 100 mm and an end lap of at least 150 mm must be provided, unless otherwise specified by the project or the manufacturer. To maintain the waterproofing function, it is recommended to periodically inspect details, flashings, drains, overflows and all exposed parts of the membrane.
