Microcement flooring creates a continuous decorative surface with a mineral appearance. Selection starts with the condition of the floor and its daily use: residential floors, commercial areas and continuously wet zones have different preparation and protective finish requirements.

Concrete, screed or existing tiles

Check strength, moisture, flatness and existing joints. Remove dust, weak areas and contamination before system preparation. For tiles, adhesion and joint levelling are important; the decorative layer does not strengthen loose tiling.

Decorative layer and protective finish

The primer prepares a suitable surface for subsequent layers, microcement creates the appearance, and the sealer determines cleaning and surface protection requirements. Select products as a compatible system. A matt appearance alone does not demonstrate slip resistance.

Underfloor heating and construction joints

For heated floors, establish the screed type, completed heating cycle and application conditions. Construction and movement joints must follow the design. The system data sheet determines when heating can be switched on and the coating put into use.

Cost of microcement flooring per m²

The quotation depends on area, preparation, required layers, colour, finish and details around steps, doors and adjoining flooring. Send photographs, the area and a description of the substrate for an accurate calculation.

Choosing a microcement system

Start with the substrate, room and desired texture. State the area, whether it is a floor or wall, and whether there is direct water exposure or underfloor heating. This information helps select suitable base coats, pigments and sealers from the chosen brand’s system.

Frequently asked questions: microcement for floors

Practical answers about substrates, systems and the specific application.
Is microcement suitable for a residential floor?

Yes, when a system intended for floors is selected for a suitable substrate. Loads and maintenance must be appropriate for the decorative material and protective sealer.

Can it be applied over floor tiles?

With a system that permits this substrate, after checking adhesion and carrying out appropriate preparation. Repair loose tiles and active cracks first.

Can it be used with underfloor heating?

Check compatibility for the particular system and screed. Establish the heating cycle, application conditions and gradual commissioning procedure.

How thick is the finished floor?

Total thickness includes preparation, decorative layers and protective layers. It is determined by the system and required levelling, rather than the decorative microcement alone.

When can the coating be walked on?

After the time specified for foot traffic on the completed system. This depends on materials and conditions; a surface that is dry to the touch is not necessarily ready for full use.

Should joints be retained?

Construction and movement joints must follow the design and system documentation. They must not be arbitrarily concealed beneath a decorative layer.

How is the cost per m² calculated?

Allow for area, substrate, preparation, layers, finish and details. The quotation must specify whether it covers materials only or installation as well.

How is a microcement floor cleaned?

Use products and tools permitted for the specific sealer. Protect the finish from abrasive cleaning and follow its maintenance instructions.
