Microcement for furniture can be considered for a decorative mineral appearance where a suitable substrate and an expressly permitted system solution exist. Select the material according to the construction, edges and actual use of the furniture.

The substrate determines selection

Wood, MDF, coated boards and mineral elements behave differently. Assess stability, movement, connections, moisture and adhesion. A general concrete-floor instruction is not sufficient for movable furniture or a cabinet door.

Edges, openings and working surfaces

Plan corners, openings and connections to fittings before application. A worktop, decorative panel and shelf have different loads. Food contact, hot cookware and frequent wetting require an appropriately documented intended use of the system.

Sample and protective sealer

A sample element allows colour, texture and edge detailing to be assessed. Select the sealer for the intended use and cleaning. A smooth appearance does not demonstrate antibacterial properties.

What is needed for a technical enquiry

Send photographs or a drawing, dimensions, substrate material, existing surface type and intended use. This information supports selection of a system solution and calculation of materials.

Systems, primers and sealers

Browse the products from Topciment and Sika. Check the role of each material: substrate preparation, base coat, decorative finish, pigment or protective sealer. Product pages provide the available technical sheets. Select all layers for the same documented system, substrate and intended use.

Choosing a microcement system

Start with the substrate, room and desired texture. State the area, whether it is a floor or wall, and whether there is direct water exposure or underfloor heating. This information helps select suitable base coats, pigments and sealers from the chosen brand’s system.

Frequently asked questions: microcement for furniture

Practical answers about substrates, systems and the specific application.
Is every microcement suitable for furniture?

No. Check the specific substrate, movement and permitted system application. A product for mineral walls is not automatically suitable for every furniture item.

Can it be used on MDF or wood?

Only with a suitable system solution for the particular board or wooden construction. Assess moisture, stability and connections first.

Can a cabinet door be coated?

Assess the substrate, movement, edges and fittings. Suitability must be established for the particular element and system.

Is it suitable for a table or kitchen worktop?

Check intended use against loads, cleaning and possible food contact. A decorative appearance does not demonstrate resistance to knives or hot cookware.

Is the coating antibacterial?

This property may be claimed only with documentation for the specific system. It cannot be inferred from density, colour or the absence of decorative joints.

Why is a sample on the actual substrate needed?

It shows colour, finish and edge detailing on a representative element. A sample does not replace technical compatibility checks.

How is decorative furniture maintained?

Follow the sealer instructions and intended loads. Use permitted cleaning products and protection against mechanical or thermal impact.

What determines the price for a furniture item?

Area, construction, edges, details, preparation and finish. Dimensions and the exact substrate material are needed for a calculation.
