Microcement for living rooms creates a mineral appearance on floors and feature walls. Selection considers both the decorative effect and actual room use: foot traffic, furniture, sunlight and maintenance.

A floor system for everyday use

A stable substrate and suitable sealer are central to a floor system. Assess the screed, existing joints and transitions to adjoining floor finishes. Specify the hand-applied texture in advance, including the desired smoothness.

Feature walls and transitions

Microcement can be considered for a decorative wall or niche according to the permitted substrate. Plan transitions to wood, stone, metal and adjoining coatings as installation details.

Colour with large windows and lighting

Before choosing, assess the sample in daylight and artificial light. The finish affects colour intensity and reflections. Check the selected materials’ properties under UV exposure and the intended loads.

Cost and site preparation

For a quotation, send the area, photographs, substrate type, heating information and intended surfaces. Calculate floors, walls and complex transitions according to the preparation required.

Choosing a microcement system

Start with the substrate, room and desired texture. State the area, whether it is a floor or wall, and whether there is direct water exposure or underfloor heating. This information helps select suitable base coats, pigments and sealers from the chosen brand’s system.

Frequently asked questions: microcement for living rooms

Practical answers about substrates, systems and the specific application.
Which system should I choose for a living room floor?

One intended for the expected residential use on the relevant substrate. Establish preparation, decorative layers and protective finish.

Can it be combined with parquet or tiles?

Yes, with planned levels, transitions and joints between different floor finishes. Details must account for substrate movement and the system.

Will the whole surface look identical?

A hand-applied decorative texture may include variations in shade and tool marks. A sample helps establish the intended surface character.

What matters with large windows?

Lighting highlights texture and sheen. Also check the selected system’s properties under sunlight exposure.

Can a cracked screed be covered?

Assess the cause and condition of cracks and repair them before the decorative layer. Concealing active movement does not resolve it.

When can furniture be returned?

After the period specified for the relevant loads on the completed system. Determine this from the technical documentation and site conditions.

What determines the cost per m²?

Preparation, area, layers, finish and transitions to other materials. Calculate walls and floors according to their individual condition.

How is the coating maintained?

Follow the sealer’s permitted cleaning products and methods. When wear occurs, assess renewal of protection according to the system instructions.
