Microcement for bathrooms offers a continuous mineral appearance for appropriately selected walls and floors. Selection starts with wetting zones: a decorative wall, the floor near a basin and a shower area must be assessed separately.

Shower, floor and dry areas

For direct wetting, select a complete system with suitable waterproofing and protective finish. Falls, drains, internal corners and pipe penetrations are part of the solution. The name microcement alone does not establish suitability for continuous wetting.

Renovation over existing tiles

Check tile adhesion, voids, moisture, cracks and joint condition. Sound tiling can be considered as a substrate only with a system that permits it. Repair loose or moving areas first.

Sealer and daily maintenance

The selected sealer must suit the wetting conditions and cleaning method. Use cleaning products and tools permitted for it. Ventilation and drainage remain important for normal bathroom use.

Cost of bathroom microcement per m²

In addition to area, allow for preparation, waterproofing, niches, corners, drains, decorative layers and protection. Send photographs, dimensions and details of surfaces exposed to direct wetting for a quotation.

Browse the products from Topciment and Sika. Check the role of each material: substrate preparation, base coat, decorative finish, pigment or protective sealer. Product pages provide the available technical sheets. Select all layers for the same documented system, substrate and intended use.

Send a technical enquiry with the area, photographs and a description of the substrate.

Choosing a microcement system

Start with the substrate, room and desired texture. State the area, whether it is a floor or wall, and whether there is direct water exposure or underfloor heating. This information helps select suitable base coats, pigments and sealers from the chosen brand’s system.

Frequently asked questions: microcement for bathrooms

Practical answers about substrates, systems and the specific application.
Does microcement replace waterproofing?

It must not be treated as a replacement based on its name alone. Choose a bathroom system that addresses waterproofing, decorative finish and details separately.

Can it be used on a shower floor?

With a system specifically suitable for this application, correct drainage and compatible layers. Check the limitations of the decorative material and sealer for direct wetting.

Can it be applied over existing bathroom tiles?

If they are firmly bonded and the selected system permits the substrate. Moisture, voids, damaged joints and unevenness must be assessed and treated first.

Are all sealers suitable for bathrooms?

No. Selection depends on wetting, system compatibility and maintenance. A decorative gloss or matt appearance does not establish suitability for a shower.

Is every microcement suitable for a shower area?

No. Select a specific system for the water exposure, substrate and protective finish. Coordinate substrate preparation, waterproofing, drain connections and sealing. Suitability for a bathroom does not automatically mean suitability for permanent immersion.

What affects the cost per m²?

Preparation, area, wet zones, waterproofing, layers and details. Specify the scope of materials and installation in the quotation.

How is the bathroom coating cleaned?

Use products permitted for the particular sealer. Follow instructions for cleaning agents, deposit removal and renewal of the protective layer.

What information is needed to choose a system?

Photographs, wall and floor areas, substrate type, existing tiles, waterproofing condition and areas exposed to direct wetting.
