Microcement for kitchens is selected for the particular surface: floor, wall, splashback or decorative element. Alongside appearance, water, grease, cleaning and mechanical loads matter.

Floors, walls and splashbacks

For floors, assess substrate strength, joints and foot traffic. For walls and splashbacks, establish splash exposure, proximity to the sink and heat sources. Select materials and sealer for the actual conditions in each area.

Worktops and furniture

A worktop or furniture item requires a system intended for the specific substrate and use. Do not automatically extend suitability for interior walls to MDF, wood or a worktop. Food contact, hot cookware and abrasion must be considered separately.

Renovation over existing tiles

Check adhesion, joints, grease and moisture. Prepare the substrate according to the system, including any necessary levelling. Repair unstable tiling before the decorative coating.

Sealer, cleaning and cost

Select the sealer according to use and permitted cleaning products. A quotation should specify area, substrate, zones around the sink and appliances, colour and finish. Work on edges and small details is assessed separately from large flat surfaces.

Systems, primers and sealers

Browse the products from Topciment and Sika. Check the role of each material: substrate preparation, base coat, decorative finish, pigment or protective sealer. Product pages provide the available technical sheets. Select all layers for the same documented system, substrate and intended use.

Send a technical enquiry with the area, photographs and a description of the substrate.

Choosing a microcement system

Start with the substrate, room and desired texture. State the area, whether it is a floor or wall, and whether there is direct water exposure or underfloor heating. This information helps select suitable base coats, pigments and sealers from the chosen brand’s system.

Frequently asked questions: microcement for kitchens

Practical answers about substrates, systems and the specific application.
Can microcement be used in a kitchen?

Yes, with a system for the particular surface and expected use. Assess floors, walls, splashbacks and worktops separately.

Is it suitable for a splashback?

When the substrate, wetting, cleaning and heat exposure fall within the selected system’s permitted conditions.

Can it be used for a kitchen worktop?

A specifically suitable system is needed for the worktop substrate and intended use. Suitability for walls and floors does not establish suitability for food contact or hot cookware.

Can it be applied over existing kitchen tiles?

With sound tiling and a system that permits the substrate, after degreasing and the required preparation. Treat joints and levels before the decorative layers.

Does the sealer protect against every stain?

Do not assume universal protection. Check resistance and permitted contact with substances for the specific sealer.

Can food be cut directly on a decorative worktop?

Permitted use is determined by the system. A decorative surface is not presented as a chopping board; use suitable work boards.

What matters around the sink?

Connections, drainage, joints and the duration of wetting. Select according to the limitations of the decorative material and protective layers.

How is the price for a kitchen calculated?

Separate floor, wall and decorative element areas. Allow for substrate, preparation, finish, edges and connections around equipment.
